In 1945, a group of dedicated Christian parents from the San Gabriel Valley established the first Christian School in Arcadia. In less than a month, the Arcadia Christian School (ACS) will celebrate its 70th Anniversary. The Arcadia Christian School has grown from a one-room schoolhouse to the longest-standing Christian School in the San Gabriel Valley.
Arcadia Christian School, located at 1900 S. Santa Anita Ave., is a private and independent school that offers preschool through the eighth grade. Over fifty different churches are represented by the school’s student body of 214. The school is accredited by both the Association of Christian Schools International and the Western Association of School and Colleges.
The founders had a specific vision for the school. The vision of providing an educational school that allows parents to raise their children in their belief and to show their children a love for God and His creation.
In grades K-5 the phonetic approach to reading is taken. Students learn the fundamentals of math and emphasis is placed on language arts. Junior high, including sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, focuses on music and foreign language. Each class has around 18 students and, therefore, allows the teacher to give each child individual attention. The school is unique in that it revolves around five basic character builders: creating a guide for life, maintaining a high academic standard, instilling high moral character, generating a spirit of patriotism, and realizing the value of self-discipline.
The school also offers an exciting, afterschool program consisting of Bible stories, songs, creative activities, reading readiness, music, and outdoor play. These programs allow students to find an enjoyable experience while learning to share with others and to understand the belief of God.
In the summer of 2015, the Arcadia Christian School advanced 18 students to high school. Graduates from ACS either attend high school at a local private school like La Salle High School or Don Bosco Technical School. Others attend public high schools such as Arcadia High School or Temple High School. With the support of the school’s counselors, students easily transfer and adapt to another school district.
On Sept. 25th, the Arcadia Christian School will be celebrating its 70th year Anniversary Celebration at the Embassy Suites. The Arcadia Mayor and the LA County Supervisor will be presenting a proclamation to the school. For ticketing information, contact the Arcadia Christian School at (626) 574 -8229.
