Following a masterful showing at last week’s Babe Herman Tournament, Arcadia High School is ranked No. 8 and No. 12 in the Los Angeles Times’ Top 25 baseball rankings and Prep Baseball Report’s Power 25, respectively.

Boasting an unblemished 9-0 record in nonleague play, the Apaches have been nothing short of sensational and the community has taken notice.

In both the Frozen Ropes Classic and the Babe Herman Tournament, Arcadia swept through the competition, winning each game by an average of 4.5 runs. The Apaches’ closest calls came during their games against West Covina and Etiwanda where they came out on top by only one run.

The 20-time Pacific League champs’ biggest victory came last Friday against Orange County perennial powerhouse Mater Dei from the Trinity League. In that contest, Arcadia erased an early deficit with a four-run rally in the third inning as they defeated the Monarchs 5-3.

Apaches starting pitcher Jacob Morales got off to a shaky start in that game, which allowed the Monarchs to take an early 2-1 lead. However, a pair of squeeze plays set up Andrew Scanell to knock in a two-RBI single for the 5-2 lead.

On the season, standouts behind the plate include juniors Jeffery Castillo, Dominck Tello and Jacob Lopez, who are all hitting over .300. The trio has also combined for 22 RBIs in nine games.

On the mound, Caden Ross had arguably Arcadia’s best performance thus far. In the Apaches’ 4-0 win over Cleveland, the senior tossed a complete game, surrendering a mere four hits.

By the time this article is published, San Gabriel Valley’s hottest team will have already begun Pacific League with a home fixture against Burbank. However, the team will then travel to Burbank on Friday for its second game against the Bulldogs in one week.
