School is back in session and with it, Arcadia High School athletics will soon be in full swing. Here is a preview for the fall sports at Arcadia.
The Aztecs 2018 season ended in heartbreak as they lost in the CIF-SS D8 Championship to Kaiser, 35-38. While the season didn’t end the way they wanted it to, the team absolutely dominated for most of the year, notching a +356 point differential. The team looks to continue their prolific offense that averaged 44 points per contest last year. At the helm will be senior quarterback Dylan Guerra who tossed for more than 3,000 yards and 35 touchdowns last year.
The first game of the season is at home on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. against Valencia. Arcadia will host three more consecutive home games against La Serna (Sept. 6), Whittier (Sept. 13) and Burbank (Sept. 20), before their first road contest of the year at Hoover on Sep. 27.
The Aztecs won 21 straight matches last year before dropping their first contest of the season in the CIF-SS Open Division semifinals against Campbell Hall. The team dominated nearly every opponent they faced, winning 13 contests by a margin of 10 or more points.
The varsity volleyball team looks to make it deeper in the postseason tournament this year after falling in the second round last season. The team posted a very strong record of 25-4 last year, including three huge win streaks of six, seven and nine games. The Aztecs will return nine players from last year’s squad.
The team opens their season at home on Aug. 20 at 3:30 p.m. against San Marino.
